This standard establishes the classification system of polystyrene materials existing on the market, colored or not, based on discriminating, easily measurable and reproducible properties. 2 There are no tests for the evaluation of specific properties, such as resistance to light, resistance to flame, antistaticity, etc. which may be presented to a particular extent by special types of materials; in relation to these characteristics, where required, agreements must be made, from time to time, between the customer and the supplier, regarding both the test methods and the permitted limits. 3 The following are excluded from this standard:
——polystyrene latexes and resins for particular uses (for example paints) which in any case cannot be used with the aforementioned processing technologies;
——styrene copolymers;
——polystyrenes modified with other polymers, such as, for example, materials commercially called shock-resistant PS, which will be the subject of another standard.
