UNI 6916-1971 Classification and identification of soldering irons. Welding irons with austenitic stainless steel or nickel alloy electrodes for welding medium and thick steel plates
This unification aims to provide a classification of welder workers who must perform manual arc welding with Cr-Ni austenitic stainless steel electrodes or basic or neutral coated Ni alloys on sheets of any type of steel or alloy of Ni and to establish the methods for carrying out and evaluating the relevant qualification tests. This classification is valid for welding sheet metal of medium and thick thickness (^ 4 mm) for butt joints and also of smaller thickness for corner seams. This classification is valid for the welding of constructions in which only sheet metal, or sheet metal and profiles are used; however, it does not apply to the welding of pipes for the passage of fluids or to those parts of tubular constructions in which welding poses the same problems. Passing these tests does not exclude that the welder must be expressly trained for particular jobs, nor does it exclude the possible carrying out of adequate tests in these cases.
