- This unification concerns the method for evaluating the local thickness of metal coatings, based on the time necessary to obtain perforation of the coating itself, using a jet of adequate solution. 2-11 method indicated in this unification is used for measuring the thickness of simple coatings of nickel, cobalt, copper, zinc, cadmium, silver, tin deposited on base metal such as iron, copper, brass, aluminium, zinc, nickel. It also allows the determination of thicknesses of overlapping coatings of different metals. 3-11 method is applicable only to samples in which the area exposed to the jet is preferably flat or in any case has a sufficiently large radius of curvature. 4-11 method is applicable when the measured value, compared with the results obtained with the micrographic method (see UNI 4237), does not deviate from what is specified in point 19.
