- This unification indicates the procedure for determining the degree of smoothness of the particles constituting the molding materials (powders, granules, etc.); From this smoothness we obtain the speed with which the same particles come out of the feeding hoppers of the machines. This speed essentially depends on the friction that the individual particles exert between themselves and on the walls of the container that contains them; these particles, also depending on their shape, size, weight, adhesive characteristics, etc., present a different degree of smoothness, for the measurement of which the time taken by a specific quantity of the aforementioned material to pass through a funnel of the shape and pre-established dimensions.
