1 The test methodology reported in this standard applies to ferrous and non-ferrous metallic materials which give rise to breakages accompanied by very small plastic deformations compared to the length of the crack and the dimensions of the test piece, i.e. such as to satisfy the tests required a posteriori according to the requirements of this standard (see 10.6). 2 For ferrous materials, the typical field of application of the methodology is that of high strength steels [Rm greater than approximately 900 N/mm2 (92 kgf/mm2)], or medium strength alloy steels used in high thicknesses.
