The silica is made insoluble by evaporating the nitric solution of the sample to white fumes of perchloric acid and filtering. The nickel in the slightly ammoniacal filtrate is separated by precipitating it with an alcoholic solution of dimethylglyoxime, in the presence of ammonium citrate to keep the iron in solution, and the nickeldimethylglyoxime is weighed.
