This Singapore Standard specifies the performance and important mechanical features of metal clamps used to provide mechanically and electrically sound means of earthing and/or bonding. They are primarily intended for use in electrical installations for the connection of
(a) an earthing conductor having a cross-sectional area in the range 2.5 mm2 to 70 mm2 to earth electrode rods or other means of earthing;
(b) bonding conductors to metallic tubes having circumferences not less than 18.8 mm (i.e. round tubes of 6 mm diameter).
These clamps are also suitable for effecting electrical bonding between other conductive parts, one of which is a tube.
This standard applies only to clamps having terminations that affect connection to the conductor via the use of screw-threads. Other methods of connection of a more permanent nature such as soldering, welding or crimping, without the use of a separate cable socket, are excluded.
NOTE 1. Clamps covered by this standard are intended to be used singly when encircling a tube at a given position along the tube.
NOTE 2. There is no correlation between the size of a conductor which the clamp termination can accommodate and the size of tube for which it is intended to be fitted.
