The standard applies to petrol (gasoline) cans with acces-sories (cap and extension tube), with a nominal volume of two to ten litres, made of polyethylene plastic. The cans are intended for use as spare cans. They are not in-tended for transport and storage and may not be stacked filled with petrol or stored outdoors.
The requirements in the standard are based on the ordi-nary grades of petrol in existence at the time of the most recent revision of the standard in 1983. If the cans are used for petrol grades of other composition or marketed for other purposes than those set forth in the preceding paragraph, it is possible that the plastic material of which the cans are made may be adversely affected.
