This standard is applicable to the determination of biochemical oxygen demand, BOD, of all types of water and dilutions thereof containing no substances interfering with the degradation of organic matter. The method covers a wide range of concentrations of oxygen consuming material. The lower determination limit is a BOD value of 2 mg/1 for an undiluted sample.
Special tests are required to check the presence of interfering substances, see 10.2.
Interferences from chlorine, sulphur dioxide, hydrogen sulphide and other volatile sulphides can be eliminated as instructed in 10.3 — 10.5.
The interference from immediate oxygen demand (IDOD)? is diminished by waiting 15 min between the dilution and the oxygen determination.
