This European standard specifies the dimensions, dimensional tolerances, mechanical, physical and chemical characteris ics, surface appearance specifications and marking of ceramic tiles and slabs. The standard is only applicable to stretched ceramic tiles and slabs with water absorption 3% < E ^ 6% according to the Alia group of standard EN 87 intended for floor and wall coverings indoors and 1 exterior of buildings. The standard only applies to premium stretched tiles and slabs. This standard is divided into two parts. The majority of Alia group ceramic tiles and slabs are covered by Part 1 of the standard. This Part 2 covers certain specific ceramic tiles and slabs, produced under various names (terracotta in France and Belgium, cotto in Italy and Catalan canopy in Spain).
