Scope
This standard covers contactors intended to close and open electrical circuits and, if fitted with suitable relays, to provide protection of circuits against overloads that may occur in operation. It applies exclusively to contactors intended to be connected to circuits whose nominal voltage does not exceed 1,000 V in alternating current or 1200 V in direct current. Note 1. In cases of alternating voltages greater than 1000V or direct voltages greater than 1200V, there are no national or international standards. In this case, there must be an agreement between the manufacturer and the user and this standard will be used to the extent applicable. . Note 2. Contactors intended to ensure protection against short circuits must also comply with the corresponding requirements prescribed for automatic power switches (COVENIN 733 standard). The purpose of this standard is to indicate: 1. The characteristics of the contactors; 2. The requirements that contactors must meet with respect to: a) their operation and behavior in normal service; b) its dielectric properties; c) the degrees of protection they provide. 3. Tests intended to verify whether they comply with these requirements and the testing procedures. H. the data that must be marked on these devices.
