This standard describes a method for determining the magnesium content up to 0.1% (w/w) using atomic absorption spectrometry and is applicable to the chemical examination of iron. If the requirements mentioned in Chapter 4 are met, the detection limit is approximately 0.001% (m/m) magnesium. The determination is not dis urbed by the elements normally found in iron. The interference suppressor used (strontium ions) is sufficient to suppress the interference by a maximum of 0.2% (w/w) aluminum, 5% (w/w) silicon and 1% (w/w) titanium. The instructions of NPR 6223 must be used for the application of this standard.
