The standard applies to the examination of vegetable and animal oils and fats, and technical fatty acids. The volumetric conventional mass, also referred to in the past as "volume weight" or "liter weight", can be used to calculate the conventional mass (i.e. the mass in which the determination is not corrected for the buoyancy of the surrounding air ) of a batch of oil or melted fat, the volume of which is accurately known, e.g. by measuring the contents of a tank. The volumetric conventional mass is also used as a characteris ic value for an oil or fat. The relative density is used as a key number of an oil or fat.
