NEN 1974-1986 Solid mineral fuels - Calculation of the hydrogen content and the net calorific value from the volatile matter content and the gross calorific value
This standard describes a formula with which the hydrogen content can be calculated if the content of volatile components and the heat of combustion are known. This Seyler formula is only an approximation and is less accurate for some types of coal. This mainly concerns coal from the southern hemis here. The standard is a supplement to NEN-is 1928, which describes the determination of the heat of combustion with the bomb calorimeter. When calculating the heating value included therein, it is necessary that the hydrogen content is known from analyses. In addition, a formula is given for calculating the heating value based on the calculated hydrogen content, water content and heat of combustion.
