This standard describes a number of methods for determining the fat content in straight animal feeds, compound feeds and the main raw materials from which they are prepared and/or composed, including cakes and scraps from fatty seeds and fruits, by-products obtained in beer breweries and yeast, spirit and dairy factories, as well as animal products such as fis meal, animal meal, meat-and-bone meal, etc. Depending on the determination method used, the content found is referred to as crude fat or ether extract, as fat or petroleum ether extract or as total fat (see 2). Although in principle all the methods described can be applied to straight animal feed, compound feed and raw materials, in practice it is common for one of the methods mentioned to be specifically used for certain products and for certain destinations (see 4).
