The standard applies to solutions of substances in water with a known composition in a standardized medium. The scope of application can be extended to undiluted or slightly diluted wastewater if the approximately contents of Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+, CI~, SO42~, HCO3~ are known and, if necessary, these can be adapted to those of the standardized medium. Note The tolerance of Daphnia magna to the combination of Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+, Cl-, SO4 ~~ and HCC>3_is not known. If the levels of these in waste water, etc., are much higher than in the standardized medium, Daphnia magna cannot be used as a test animal.
