Scope
This standard applies to taking groundwater samples from monitoring wells for the determination of metals, inorganic compounds, moderately volatile organic compounds and physicochemical properties. Notes 1. This standard applies both to the sampling of contaminated groundwater and to the sampling of uncontaminated groundwater for the purpose of determining natural concentrations. 2. Moderately volatile organic compounds are, in accordance with NVN 5730, defined as compounds with a boiling point higher than 300 °C (at a pressure of 101 kPa). This includes: ——mineral oil; ——polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs); ——polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs); ——organochlorine pesticides (OCBs); ——organonitrogen or organophosphorus pesticides; ——extractable organohalogen compounds (EOX); ——substituted phenols (chlorinated phenols, cresols). The group parameters mineral oil and EOX also contain a relatively volatile fraction; it may be desirable to take this into special account and take samples in which these parameters must be determined in accordance with NEN 5745. 3. For the sampling of groundwater for the determination of volatile organic compounds, see NEN 5745. 4. Metallic mercury and a some organic mercury and arsenic compounds are relatively volatile. For the sampling of groundwater for the determination of these compounds, see NEN 5745.
