The standard applies to the investigation of water transport in and the water balance and/or the mois ure status of the unsaturated zone of the soil. Due to the non-destructive nature of the measurements, the method is particularly suitable for performing repeated measurements of the water content at specific depths or of individual soil layers. The standard does not apply to soils whose bulk density changes significantly over time. Compared to the determination method with a neutron depth probe according to NEN 5782, the method according to this standard has a greater spatial resolution. Another difference is that this is a relative measurement, with which differences in water content are determined and the absolute water contents are determined by calibration with the gravimetric method.
