This standard describes the method to be used to determine the acetone extract of phenoplast molded parts. The acetone extraction test is one of the means used to assess the relative degree of polycondensation of phenoplast castings. The extraction is carried out under well-defined conditions for a perfectly defined period of time, because, although a high proportion of soluble materials is determined, the extraction is not necessarily complete. The results are only comparative because the extracted products may contain a certain proportion of materials other than non-condensed resin, namely: lubricants, coloring materials and plasticizers.
