This International Standard specifies a test method for determining the loss of thickness and the loss of hardness of flexible cellular materials intended for use in saddlery. This test method provides a means of estimating the in-service performance of flexible cellular materials, such as latex and polyurethane, used in upholstery that must withstand heavy loads. The measured thickness loss and hardness loss are related to losses that occur during use, but are not necessarily the same. The method is applicable to both normal specimens cut from a block of material and to shaped elements.
