1.1 This International Standard specifies a method for estimating the lower heating value, expressed in megajoules per kilogram or Britis thermal units per pound, of aviation fuels. It is not applicable to pure hydrocarbons. 1.2 The specified method is purely empirical and is applicable only to fuels consis ing of liquid hydrocarbons which comply with the requirements of the specifications relating to aviation gasoline, or to jet fuels of the type: turbomachinery fuels, wide cut; fuels for turbomachines, with a high flash point; fuels for turbomachines, kerosene type (see note 1). The use of this method is reserved for cases where an experimental determination of the calorific value has not been made and cannot be made conveniently, and where an estimate of the calorific value is considered satis actory. It is not intended, for specification and similar purposes, to use estimated values of lower heating value in place of experimentally determined values (see note 2).
