Scope
This European standard describes a method for determining the flash point of petroleum products and other liquids above + 5 °C and below 65 °C using the Abel-Pensky apparatus. The test method can be used, as described, below +5°C; however, in this case, a fidelity significantly lower than that given in 9.3 must be expected. In certain European countries, the scope of application of the Abel-Pensky method is defined by national regulations. In these cases, provided that the regulatory area is included within the limits cited above, a note defining the applicable restrictions may be added to this paragraph. The method described is not suitable for heterogeneous or vis ous mixtures or solutions such as lacquers, paints or glues. Among other characteris ics, the flash point is a criterion for the ignition power of liquid fuels when they come into contact with a flame, and for this reason constitutes a reference allowing the assessment of the danger of these liquids. from the point of view of explosiveness or flammability. The divis on of liquid fuels into different transport and storage hazard classes is based on their flash points. In certain cases, determining the flash point makes it possible to detect pollution.
