Scope
This European standard defines the term "steel" (see s 3) and establis es - a classification into non-alloy steels and alloy steels according to chemical composition (see § 4), - a classification of non-alloy and alloy steels according to the main quality classes (see I 5) defined according to the main property and application characteris ics (see appendices). NOTE: The Technical Committees responsible for the development of quality standards must classify the grades defined in these standards in the group of non-alloy steels or in the group of alloy steels according to the indications in 8 4, and in one of the main classes defined in S 5 of this European standard and indicate this classification in the text of each standard. If the requirements specified in a quality standard are not compatible with the criteria defined in § 5, and therefore doubts aris about the classification of the grades, the Technical Committee for EN 10 020 must propose a classification ; in the event of a dis ute with the Technical Committee responsible for the quality standard, the Coordination Commis ion must decide. The classification given by the standard applies automatically regardless of the type of steel actually produced as long as its chemical composition corresponds to the requirements of the quality standard in question.
