Scope
1.1 This standard is applicable to the determination of the content of saponifiable components in petroleum products (such as lubricating oil, additives, transmission fluid, etc.) under test conditions. This standard includes two determination methods: method A - color indicator method (Chapter 6 to Chapter 11) and method B - potentiometric titration method (Chapter 12 to Chapter 19). 1.2 Since some compounds of sulfur, phosphorus, halogens and other elements added to petroleum products can also consume acids or alkalis, the determination results are not only determined by the existing saponifiable components in the oil, but also affected by the above external factors. factors. For the determination results of saponification value of petroleum products containing such compounds and used internal combustion engine oil, crankcase oil and steam turbine oil, the external influencing factors shall be explained in detail. Note: The above-mentioned substances that affect the determination of saponification value include inorganic acids, some organic acids, and most non-alkaline soaps, etc. These substances are generally considered as non-saponifiable substances. The presence of these substances can lead to high saponification values of fatty saponifiable substances specified in the method. In the process of measuring the saponification value by back titration, if there is an odor of hydrogen sulfide near the end point, it indicates that there is some kind of active sulfide in the sample. And when there are some other compounds containing active sulfur, chlorine, phosphorus and other interfering substances in the sample, there is no obvious test phenomenon that can distinguish the existence of these substances during the determination process, and the actual content of fatty acids may be determined by gravimetric method. is the most reliable method for the determination of these compounds. 1.3 This standard only describes some special hazards related to the test process, but does not mention all safety issues. Therefore, users should establish appropriate safety and protection measures and formulate corresponding management systems before using this standard.
