Scope
This Kenya Standard gives the requirements for the flame-retardant characteristics of electric cables and describes the method for testing them. NOTE: Since the use of a flame-retardant wire or ca6le alone is not sufficient to prevent propagation of fire under any conditions of installation, it is recommended that, wherever the risk of fire propagation is high for example, in high vertical runs of bunches of cables, special installation precautions should also be taken. It cannot be assumed that because the sample of a cable complies with the performance requirements of this Kenya Standard, a bunch of cables of the same type will be flame-retardant. The procedure described in this standard is not suitable for the testing of some small wires due to melting of the conductors during the time of application of the flame. A test for these small wires is under consideration.
