Scope
This standard specifies the determination of the ultimate aerobic biological decomposition capacity of plastic materials in soil by measuring the oxygen demand in a closed respirometer or by measuring the amount of carbon dioxide released. This standard obtains the optimal degree of biological decomposition rate by adjusting the humidity of the test soil. If soil without pre-exposure is used as the inoculum, this test only simulates the biological decomposition process in the natural soil environment; if pre-exposed soil is used, this standard can be used to determine the potential biodegradation performance of the test material. This standard applies to the following materials:  ——natural and/or synthetic polymers, copolymers or their mixtures;  ——plastic materials containing additives such as plasticizers, pigments or other compounds;  ——water-soluble polymers; 11. Materials that do not inhibit the activity of microorganisms in the soil under test conditions. The inhibitory effect can be measured by applying inhibition control or other appropriate methods (see ISO 8192:1986). If the test material has an inhibitory effect on the activity of microorganisms in the soil, a lower concentration of test material, other inoculants or pre-exposed soil can be used.
