1.1 This standard describes a procedure for the determination of bulk density of a representative 2 kg sample of calcined petroleum coke, after vibra-tion to increase compaction.
1.2 The procedure is limited to particles passing through a 6.68 mm opening sieve ( equivalent to a 3-mesh Tyler Standard Series ) and retained on a 0.21 mm opening, No. 70, sieve ( equivalent to a 65-mesh Tyler Standard Series ). Further, the pro-cedure is limited to a specilic test sample having particles retained between screens having openings that differ by a factor of less than 2∫2 and pre-ferably less than 2.
1.3 This procedure does not specify the method by which the 2 kg sample is obtained from a large lot of calcined coke. The procedure for obtaining the sample could include multiple sampling, breaking up particles with diameters greater than about 20 mm, and riffling.
