Scope

1.1 This standard ( Part IV ) prescribes method for determining the relative detergency of surface active agents used for the purpose of cleaning cotton and other textile fabrics. The method is also applicable to surface active agents containing optical brightening agents ( see Note ). Note — The search unit of the photoelectric reflection meter is fitted with a 3-mm methyl methacrylate sheet placed between the light source and the cloth which absorbs the ultraviolet light required to excite fluorescence and hence prevents it from reaching the cloth.
