Scope
1.1 This method is intended for determining the bromine number of petroleum distillates substantially free of materials lighter than isobutane and having 90 percent recovery temperature under 327°C. The method is generally applicable in the case of motor gasoline, kerosine and other distillates as given below except when blending agents, such as alcohols, ketones, ethers and amines are present: 90 Percent Recovery Temperature Bromine Number °C Max Below 205 100 205 to 327 10 1.1.1 This method is also intended for determining the bromine number of commercial olefins that are essentially mixtures of aliphatic mono-olefins and have a bromine number of 95 to 165. The method has also been found suitable for such materials as commercial propylene trimer and tetramer, butylene dimer and mixed nonylenes, octylenes and heptylenes. 1.2 The method is not suitable for normal alpha-oleftns.
