This standard prescribes the requirements and the methods of sampling and test for KA TTHA (〓〓) obtained from the heartwood extractives of Acacia catechu Willd., A. chundra and A. catechuoides Benth, fam. Leguminosae. The material is generally used in the preparation of PAN (〓) for chewing, and sometimes for pharmaceutical uses in Ayurvedic and Unani systems of medicine.
