1.1 This standard prescribes gas chromatographic and spectrophotometric methods for the determination of BHG ( 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6-hexachloro-cyclohexane ) residues in foods.
1.1.1 The gas chromatographic method determines residues of alpha-, beta-, gamma- and delta-BHC isomers individually in the range of 0·01 to 0·04 υg/g ( 0· 01 to 0·04 ppm ), whereas the limit of detection with spectrophotometric method for total BHC is 0·2 to 0·6 υg/g (0·2 to 0·6 ppm).
1.1.2 The procedures based on the use of alternate GLC column, thin layer chromatography and microalkali derivatization are also being prescribed for the confirmation of the nature of BHC residues.
