1.1 The purpose of this Standard is to specify the content and structure of a vehicle identification number (VIN), with the purpose of establishing, on an international scale, a uniform vehicle identification system. 1.2 This Standard applies to vehicles for the transportation of people, goods or both, with the exception of tractors for use in agriculture that occasionally fulfill the above functions and mopeds.
