- This part of GB/T 15970 includes the design, preparation and use of pre-cracked specimens used to study stress corrosion susceptibility. Recommendations are given for the design, preparation and use of pre-cracked specimens for studying stress corrosion susceptibility. See Appendix A for recommendations regarding notched specimens. The term "metal" as used in this section also includes alloys. 1.2 Because the elastic restraint state is required to be maintained at the crack tip, pre-cracked specimens are not suitable for evaluating thin or thin materials such as sheets or wires. Usually only suitable for evaluating thicker or coarser materials such as plates, rods and forgings. Pre-cracked specimens are also suitable for welded parts. 1.3 Pre-cracked specimens can be loaded with constant load equipment, or with devices that produce constant displacement at the force application point. Increasing load and incremental displacement tests are introduced in GB/T 15970.9. 1.4 The outstanding point of the pre-cracked sample is that the measured data can be used to calculate the limit defect size of the component with known geometry and bearing known stress. If the defect size exceeds the critical value, stress corrosion will occur. rupture. Pre-cracked specimens can also be used to determine the growth rate of stress corrosion cracks. Dip paint data can be considered when monitoring defective parts in use.
