Scope
This standard applies to the electrical equipment of the safety system of nuclear power plants, including the interface components or equipment whose failure will have a harmful effect on the performance of the safety system, and also applies to non-electrical interfaces related to safety functions. This standard specifies the general process, procedures and methods for the quality appraisal of electrical equipment for safety systems in nuclear power plants. These basic requirements can ensure that the electrical equipment of the safety system performs its functions as required with a high degree of confidence. This standard also specifies the preferred methods and the severity of the qualification process to be applied in various configurations. When these qualification requirements are met, the designed safety system equipment will be adequately verified to perform its functions. In addition, consider that different types of qualifications are required depending on the function the equipment performs and where it is installed. This standard can also be used when other standards related to nuclear power plants require qualification. The quality appraisal method stipulated in this standard is applicable to the initial quality appraisal of the equipment, and also applies to the quality appraisal performed again after the equipment is modified. Other qualification rules or test methods for special electrical equipment can be used as a supplement to this standard. This standard does not include methods and benchmarks for determining design life. Manufacturers and users of safety system equipment are required to provide evidence that such equipment meets or exceeds performance requirements throughout their installed life, thus requiring preparation of design, qualification, manufacturing quality control, installation, maintenance, and periodic testing Quality assurance program for each stage. This standard only deals with quality identification. The rest of the quality assurance program requires strict controls to ensure that future manufactured equipment of the same type is identical to certified equipment and is properly used, installed, maintained and regularly tested.
