This standard stipulates the method for evaluating and grading the degree of "rust" on paint films by comparing them with grade samples based on standard illustrations. The reference illustrations specified in this standard show the condition of painted steel plate surfaces that have deteriorated to various grades due to a combination of rust that has penetrated the paint film and rust that has clearly come from beneath the paint film.
