This section specifies the general requirements and safety requirements for DC or AC electronic ballasts. The power supply includes the AC power supply of 50 Hz/60 Hz and below 1000 V. This type of ballast is a converter with ignition and stabilization components that operates a discharge lamp at direct current or at a frequency different from the mains frequency. Lamps matched with ballasts are specified in IEC 60188 "High Pressure Mercury Lamps", IEC 60192 "Low Pressure Sodium Lamps", IEC 60662 "High Pressure Sodium Lamps", IEC 61167 "Metal Halide Lamps" and other general lighting source standards. This section does not include ballasts for fluorescent lamps and ballasts for special lamps for theaters and motor vehicles.
