This standard specifies the testing methods for Ethernet switches, including functional testing, performance testing, protocol testing and routine testing. In this standard, Ethernet switches refer to LAN switches with Ethernet interfaces. All unspecified switches appearing below refer specifically to Ethernet switches. This standard applies to Ethernet switches working on the second data link layer of ISO's OSI7 layer reference model. Ethernet switches working on the third layer or higher are not within the scope of this standard. This standard applies to manageable network equipment. Unmanaged equipment is not within the scope of this standard. Ethernet switches specifically used for access should also comply with YD/T 1240-2002 "Access Network Equipment Test Methods - Broadband Access Network Equipment Based on Ethernet Technology"
