This standard specifies two test methods for determining the hydroxyl value of polyols used as raw materials for polyurethane. Understanding the amount of hydroxyl groups in polyols is necessary for proper production of polyurethane. Method A can be applied to various polyether polyols that are easily esterified. It is also desirable to apply Method A to polyols with some degree of steric hindrance, such as sucrose-based polyols. Method B is preferably applied to polyether polyols, polymer polyols, and amine-initiated polyols. However, care must be taken when using polyols with steric hindrance, as analytical values may be low. When testing polyols other than those listed above using these methods, it is necessary to confirm in advance whether or not they are applicable. This test method can be used for research, quality control and product verification purposes.
