Scope
This standard specifies the N-(1-naphthyl)-1,2-ethylenediamine dihydrochloride colorimetric method for the determination of nitrite ions in various waters. This standard is applicable to the determination of nitrite ions in coal mine industrial water, domestic water, surface water, and groundwater. When 10 to 40 mL of test water sample is taken, the concentration range of nitrite ions measured is 0. 01 to 2.5 mg/L. Diluting the water sample can expand the measurement range. This standard does not apply to the determination of nitrite ions when the ferric ions in the test water sample are greater than 100 μg, thiosulfate ions are greater than 1000 μg, chlorine is greater than 2 μg, chloramine is greater than 5 μg, and sodium polyphosphate is greater than 50 μg.
