Scope
This standard is designed to meet the requirements of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), adopted by the IMO, for radio equipment specified in Chapters III and IV of that Convention, and for radio equipment specified in Chapter V of that Convention. It assists the competent authority in type-approving navigational equipment to ensure that it conforms to performance standards that are comparable to those adopted by the IMO. (The competent authority as defined by IMO is the national flag flown by the ship, i.e. the government of the country in which the ship is registered.)
