- This standard specifies the definition of profile and the general construction of contact (stylus) instruments for measuring surface roughness and waviness. This International Standard also specifies instrument characteristics that affect profile evaluation and provides basic specifications for contact (stylus) instruments (profilometers and profile recorders). This standard is applicable to the stylus instrument for the evaluation of the actual profile, so that the current national standard can be used for the evaluation of the actual profile.
