Scope: This standard specifies the measurement method for the insulation resistance of armature and field windings of rotating electrical machines with a rated power of 750W (1hp) and above. This standard applies to synchronous motors, induction motors, DC motors and synchronous condensers (not applicable to fractional horsepower motors). This standard also describes typical characteristics of the insulation resistance of windings of rotating electrical machines, and the relationship of these characteristics to the condition of the windings. It also recommends the minimum value of the insulation resistance of the windings of AC motors and DC motors. Other IEEE standards related to insulation resistance measurement are listed in Chapter 2.
