This standard specifies a method for determining the content of naphthalene, acenaphthene and their alkyl derivatives (naphthalene series hydrocarbons, the same below) in jet fuel using ultraviolet spectrophotometry. This standard is applicable to the determination of the naphthalene series hydrocarbon content in jet fuel with a final boiling point not higher than 315°C and a volume content not higher than 5%. However, when determining the precision of this method between laboratories, the concentration range of naphthalene series hydrocarbons in the samples used in test procedure A is 0.03% to 4.25% (volume fraction); the concentration range of naphthalene series hydrocarbons in the samples used in test procedure B is 0.08% ~5.6% (volume fraction). This standard is capable of determining the maximum content of naphthalene series hydrocarbons that may be present in a sample. This standard uses the International System of Units. This standard covers certain hazardous materials, operations and equipment, but does not provide recommendations on all safety issues related thereto. Therefore, users must establish appropriate safety and protective measures and establish corresponding safety procedures before using this standard. For special hazard information, see 8.1 and 8.2.
