Scope: This part of GB/T 18570 specifies the dust assessment method on the steel surface before coating. This method provides a graphical representation of the rating of the average amount of dust and also provides a rating of the average size of the dust particles. Choose one of the following methods to carry out the test: a) "Pass/Fail" test to assess the amount of dust on the test surface and the average particle size with reference to specified limits; b) Permanently record the dust on the test surface by applying pressure-sensitive adhesive tape , use pressure-sensitive adhesive tape to test on magnetic sheets, cards or paper of corresponding contrasting colors. This method is applicable to the evaluation of residual dust on the steel surface after cleaning, and the steel surface should meet the rust grade A, B or C specified in ISO 8501-1 before cleaning. Because the pressure-sensitive adhesive tape has limited elasticity, it is impossible to penetrate deep into the deep pits on the steel surface after cleaning, so it is not suitable for steel surfaces with an initial corrosion level of D. While testing with thumb pressure PSA is subjective, it is usually sufficient, especially if a dust-free surface is required. In case of dispute, spring-loaded rollers may be used to apply pressure to the back of the pressure-sensitive adhesive tape, except where rust classes C or D are involved.
