Scope

INTRODUCTION The task of updating any technical document is never an easy one. The authors of the original version of these terms created a reference source which has been both well-respected and widely used. This revision has used the majority of the original work but@ at the same time@ has concentrated on: ??editing and aligning the French and English texts@ ??the inclusion of relevant additional terms taken from other IEC publications@ ??assembling the definitions into a more logical order. The reader will find that the move towards the concept of uncertainty has been taken into account@ to the extent that the basic terms have been included. However@ it will be several years before the concept and the terms are absorbed into general usage and@ consequently@ the older terms have not been deleted.
