Scope

This standard is used to detect open flaws, such as cracks, overlaps, wrinkles, porosity, and poor fusion, on the surface of materials and products (hereinafter referred to as test specimens) that are being manufactured or in service. Specifies the penetrant test method to be used (hereinafter referred to as the test) and the classification method of penetrant test indication patterns based on flaws.
