This Singapore Standard specifies functional requirements for the various types of personal eye-protectors used mainly in industry. The eye protection covered in this Standard includes the following hazards, individually or in combination. They are:
(A) Mechanical and chemical hazards
(a) Mechanical impacts;
(b) molten metals and hot solids;
(c) dusts or powders;
(d) liquid droplets and splashes;
(e) vapours, fumes, gases.
(B) Non-ionizing optical radiation hazards
(a) ultraviolet radiation (UV) hazard;
(b) infra-red radiation (IR) hazard;
(c) combinations of the above
? solar radiation hazard
? UV, IR and visible light from welding.
(C) Combinations of the above
(a) welding;
(b) non-standard industrial optical radiation.
This Singapore Standard is not applicable to eye-protection for nuclear radiation, X-rays, laser beams and low-temperature infra-red radiation or to sunglasses for general use or to "fashion" spectacles which are used principally as part of costume or of fancy dress.
