This standard is applicable to the determination of acidic components in petroleum products and lubricants that can be dissolved in a mixed solvent of toluene and isopropanol. The dissociation constants of these acidic components in water should be greater than 10, very weak acids with dissociation constants less than 10 will not interfere, but the hydrolysis constants are greater than 10 salts will participate in the reaction. This standard can show the relative change of oil under oxidative conditions independent of color and other properties. Although the titration is carried out under specific conditions, this method cannot be used to determine the absolute acid value of the oil to predict the performance under service conditions. There is no necessary relationship between the acid value and bearing corrosion.
