Scope

This standard is one of a series of standards concerning the sampling and testing of paints, varnishes, printing inks and related products. This standard specifies a method for determining the grinding fineness of paints, varnishes, and printing inks using a suitable fineness plate (scaled in microns). This standard applies to all types of liquid paints and varnishes and related products. Among them, the 100 μm fineness plate is suitable for general occasions, but the 50 μm fineness plate, especially the 25 μm fineness plate, can only be operated by skilled laboratory personnel to obtain reliable results. Particular caution should be exercised when judging readings less than 10 μm.
