- 1.1 This standard specifies the laboratory measurement method for the apparent viscosity of engine oil. 1.2 This standard is applicable to the determination of engine oil under the conditions of shear stress of about 50 000 ~ 100 000Pa, shear rate of 10
~10 s , -5 Apparent viscosity at ~-30°C. The measuring range is 500～10 000mPa.s. The results are related to the starting performance of the engine oil. 1.3 This standard provides manual and automatic methods for measuring the apparent viscosity of engine oil with a cold start simulator. 1.4 For samples with high viscoelasticity, it can be determined according to the special manual method given in Appendix A. 1.5 The values in this standard adopt the International System of Units. 1.6 This standard does not address all safety issues. Before using this standard, users should establish appropriate safety and precautionary measures and formulate corresponding systems.
